School Activities
Students will learn about master artists as well as contemporary artists and will be creating individual pieces of art following the Principles of Design as well as the Elements of Art.

Students of all experience levels are welcome. Playing chess helps to develop many mental skills that are useful in life, such as: logic, strategic and tactical thinking, planning and preparation, and problem-solving. Chess Club provides an opportunity to simply have fun playing the game and making friendships, while building these skills at the same time.

Students will play, learn, and socialize through various board games, including classics like chess, modern strategy games, role-playing games, etc. This will foster social interaction and problem-solving skills.

Students will be introduced to the robotics program. The First Lego League inspires youth to experiment and grow their critical thinking, coding, and design skills through hands-on STEM learning and robotics.

Makerspace club will include a book read aloud followed by a hands-on activity where students will be encouraged to use their creativity to design, create, and collaborate.
Students will read novels and engage in book discussions. In addition, students will have the opportunity to apply CCRSL skills (College and Career Readiness in Literacy Standards) including learning key vocabulary, writing about reading, asking and responding to thought provoking questions, and comparing and contrasting novels to live performances. Students will delve into the author's craft through reader's theater, viewing a theatrical version of a story, and participating in projects related to the theme.

SINGsations is a music choir that will focus on cultivating student talent through the performing arts such as singing and acting while having lots of fun! This is a BIG commitment! Please make sure that you are willing to commit to learning the songs and attend ALL rehearsals. This is an extended after-school session and closer to show time, there may be extra rehearsals scheduled for additional practice time.
“Skill and Tell” is a club that aims to teach skills to elementary students for success in a global society. This club uses some concepts associated with Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID). As AVID is normally introduced in middle and high school, we will be incorporating strategies from the AVID Elementary Foundations textbook. This club will explore skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, discourse, in addition to social and emotional awareness. Students in this club are encouraged to be attentive, participate in activities, and activate student agency. Due to the rigorous content, this club is open to 4th and 5th grade students.

Students will learn basic vocabulary and basic grammar skills for novice-level communication. They will make introductions and share information about self, family, and tell their interest. Students will fingerspell and sign numbers as well as recognize fingerspelling and sign numbers at a slow pace. Students will have an awareness of the existence of Deaf Culture, History, Literature and Art. Students will also interpret songs with their peers.
